“Of making books there is no end," complained the Preacher; and did not perceive how highly he was praising letters as an occupation. There is no end, indeed, to making books or experiments, or to travel, or to gathering wealth. Problem gives rise to problem. We may study for ever, and we are never as learned as we would. We have never made a statue worthy of our dreams. And when we have discovered a continent, or crossed a chain of mountains, it is only to find another ocean or another plain upon the further side. In the infinite universe there is room for our swiftest diligence and to spare. It is not like the works of Carlyle, which can be read to an end. Even in a corner of it, in a private park, or in the neighbourhood of a single hamlet, the weather and the seasons keep so deftly changing that although we walk there for a lifetime there will be always something new to startle and delight us.

Suppose he could take one meal so compact and comprehensive that he should never hunger any more; suppose him, at a glance, to take in all the features of the world and allay the desire for knowledge; suppose him to do the like in any province of experience - would not that man be in a poor way for amusement ever after?
One who goes touring on foot with a single volume in his knapsack reads with circumspection, pausing often to reflect, and often laying the book down to contemplate the landscape or the prints in the inn parlour; for he fears to come to an end of his entertainment, and be left companionless on the last stages of his journey.

1.Desire is a permanent pleasure and a treasure as real and solid as the real estate which cannot be exhausted. We are full of energy every year since we have the desire. One will be mentally rich if he has so many hopes. Life is just a monotonic and poor-organized play, unless we are interested in it. For those who have neither the art sense nor the scientific sense, life is just an accumulation of different colors or a rugged path, where one will break his leg if he is not prudential enough.
2.Desire is eternal delight. It is a treasure, which is as fixed and real as the estate and can never be used up. Every year we are refueled with buoyancy owing to desire. If one is full of hopes, he will be rich spiritually. Life is a tedious drama which is badly written and directed. Unless we are interested in it, to those who lack of artistic and scientific talents, the world is just a mess of colors, or a rugged lane, on which we will break our calf if not careful enough.
3.Desire is a lasting fun which is like a real and steady fortune as estate. It is inexhaustible in supply and always available for use. Every year we are filled with energy by having desire. If a person has many hopes, he will have a rich mind. Life just looks like a boring and poor wrote-played show, unless you are interested in it. For those persons who are not given art and scientific cells, this world is just a mass of the whole colors or a rugged pathway where you may break your leg without cautious.

The old lady had always been proud of the great rose-tree in her garden, and was fond of telling how it had grown from a cutting she had brought years before from Italy, when she was first married. She and her husband had been travelling back in their carriage from Rome ( it was before the time of railways ) and on a bad piece of road south of Siena they had broken down, and had been forced to pass the night in a little house by the road-side. The accommodation was wretched of course; she had spent a sleepless night, and rising early had stood, wrapped up, at her window, with the cool air blowing on her face, to watch the dawn. She could still, after all these years, remember the blue mountains with the bright moon above them, and how a far-off town on one of the peaks had gradually grown whiter and whiter, till the moon faded, the mountains were touched with the pink of the rising sun, and suddenly the town was lit as by an illumination, one window after another catching and reflecting the sun’s beam, till at last the whole little city twinkled and sparkled up in the sky like a nest of stars .

1.When you head into the hall of marriage, you may probably think you have already come to the hilltop. What lies before is merely to take a stroll along the gently dipping slope. However, it just marks the end of love affair and also the start of the love career. At the beginning of the union in the wedlock, both of you are proud and yet rebellious within. Both falling into love and winning one’s love are tough challenge, while maintaining love is of the equal importance. Both of you should love each other with respect and care. The genuine love commences at the altar, from when there comes a competition of wisdom and generosity between the married couple and a lifelong fight for an unattainable ideal. Not attainable? Ah, of course unattainable. After all, they are not singular but two individuals.
2.When you get into the palace of marriage, you might think that you’ve arrived at the top of the mountain, and what remains is to walk down the gentle slope leisurely. However, this is only the conclusion of a romantic relationship, while the inauguration of marriage. Having a personality of pride and rebellion, it’s not easy to fall in love with, or gain love from someone. Yet to nurture love is also crucial. A couple should treat each other with respect, as they entertain guests, and care for each other. True love starts from the altar. Since then, a wise and unselfish competition, a struggle out of the question but lasting for the whole life, opens fire between the couple,. Out of the question? Oh, sure it’s out of the question, as they are not a person, but a couple.
3.Now you have married your partner, the thinking that once the peak is reached, the only thing left is to go down along the smooth hillslope with relative ease might come to you. However, this is only the end of a romance and the beginning of a marriage. Neither falling in love or winning the heart is easy under the force of an arrogant and rebelious heart. Yet, the maintenance of a marriage is vital, for a couple should deem each other with respect and concern. When the true love raises from the altar of marriage, a competition of wisdom and generosity between the couple, and a struggle which lasts life long of an unlikely-to happen ideality are also brought about. Unlikely to happen? Ah, unlikely indeed, for they are not one but two distinct individuals.
4.When you step into a church to marry some one, you may think that you have climbed the top of the mountain and next you just need to walk down along the gentle slope at a leisurely pace. However, this is just the ending of love and the beginning of marriage. Both of you have a proud and traitorous mind, it is uneasy for you to fall in love with each other. Meanwhile, to maintain love is also very important. The couple should treat each other with respect and take care of each other. When true love begins, there is a competition of wisdom and generosity between the couple. It is a struggle for a dream which can not be achieved for the whole life. Why not? AH, of course not. Because they are not alone, they are always with each other

Youth By Samuel Erman
Youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind, it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees, it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions, it is the freshness of the deep spring of life.
Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20. Nobody grows old merely by a number of years; we grow old by deserting our idea.
Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, fear, self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.
Whether 60 or 16, there is in every human being's heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of what's next and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station: so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer, courage and power from the infinite, so long as you are young.
When the aerials are down, and your spirits are covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you've grown old even at 20, but as long as your aerials are up to catch waves of optimism, there's hope you may die young at 80.

The name David Foster doesn’t ring a bell with most people, but his music strikes loud chords with almost anyone tuned in to the pop scene. They are sung by various performers, form stars like Whiney Houston to the new group All-4-One, but the songs all bear the unmistakable Foster touch: the soaring vocals, the lush arrangements dripping with strings and key boards, the crescendos built on crescendos. Whether the sound is timeless or just stuck I a time warp is a matter of taste. But it sure does sell---and earn him hefty royalties. (Charles P. Alexander, The True King of Pop)

Baptizing at Home -
Baptizing at Home
‘Sorrow, I baptize thee in the name of the Father, and of the son, and of the Holy Ghost.’
She sprinkled the water, and there was silence.
‘Say “Amen”, children.’
The tiny voices piped in obedient response ‘Amen!’
Tess went on:
‘We receive this child’-and so forth-‘and do sign him with the sign of the Cross.’
Here she dipped her hand into the basin, and fervently drew an immense cross upon the baby with her forefinger, continuing with the customary sentences as to his manfully fighting against sin, the world, and the devil, and being a faithful soldier and servant unto his life’s end. She duly went on with the Lord’s Prayer, the children lisping it after her in a thin gnatlike wail, till, at the conclusion, raising their voices to clerk’s pitch, they again piped into the silence, ‘Amen!’ (Thomas Hardy, Tess of the D’Urbervilles)

The Sunrise over the Sea -
The Sunrise over the Sea
…The long waste of foreshore lay moaning under the dawn and the sea; the ocean was a flat dark strip with a white edge. Over the gloomy sea the sky grew red. Quickly the fire spread among the clouds and scattered them. Crimson burned to orange, orange to dull gold, and in a golden glitter the sun came up, dribbling fierily over the waves in little splashes, as if someone had gone along and the light had spilled from her pail as she walked. After some manipulation, he managed to get the bunch between the heels of his mittened hands. In this fashion he carried it to his mouth. The ice crackled and snapped when by a violent effort he opened his mouth. He drew the lower jaw in, curled the upper lip out of the way and scraped the bunch with his upper teeth in order to separate a match. He succeeded in getting one, which he dropped on his lap. He was no better off. He could not pick it up. Then he devised a way. He picked it up in his teeth and scratched it on his leg. Twenty times he scratched before he succeeded in lighting it. As it flamed he held it with his teeth to the birch bark. But the burning brimstone went up his nostrils and into his lungs, causing him to cough spasmodically. The match fell into the snow and went out. (Jack London, To Build a Fire)

Five Moves Become One in Killing
As the last blow struck home, Beth Marshall leaped on Cleary, raking his face with her nails and ripping both his cheeks wide open. Shrieking ferally, she brought her hands high to scratch again, but Cleary---in five moves so swift and sinuous they became one---pulled the k-bar from his first victim’s chest, pivoted, drove the blade between Beth Marshall’s eyes, twisted it ninety degrees, and withdrew it before her nails could break his skin a second time. (Tom Topor, The Codicil)
